Quick Review
If your credit leaves something to be desired, you should consider getting a secured credit card like the Sable ONE Secured. Secured credit cards are a type of card that requires a security deposit, with the deposit you pay usually determining the credit limit you get. These cards offer a way to build insufficient credit histories or rebuild low credit scores.
The Sable ONE Secured credit card is unusual in that there’s no minimum deposit; you can put down as little as you please, or even pay a deposit up to $10,000. Keep in mind that putting down a larger deposit and getting a higher credit limit can help you to maintain a low credit utilization rate (which helps your credit score).
Furthermore, it’s one of the rare no-credit-check credit cards out there. And that’s not the only reason we’re sold on this credit card. Other plus points include:
- Generous rewards
- Low fees
- Low APR
- No credit check when you apply
- No Social Security number requirement
- A flexible deposit
- Opportunities to upgrade to an unsecured card
Although the Sable ONE Secured credit card requires a security deposit, it’s a lucrative card overall. Not only does it offer a low APR (meaning you’ll pay less interest if you carry a balance from one month to the next), but it also gives a 1%–2% cashback rewards rate and doubles your cash back in the first year.
The main drawbacks of the Sable ONE Secured credit card are that it doesn’t allow balance transfers or cash advances, so this is a consideration for borrowers who want to consolidate credit card debts or withdraw cash. For other purposes, we love Sable’s low fees, flexible credit limit, and generous rewards. We highly recommend this card to new immigrants and anyone trying to build credit.

Sable ONE Secured Credit Card Feature Breakdown
In this section, we’ll review some important features of the Sable ONE Secured credit card.
Fees
- Annual fee: $0
- Foreign transaction fee: 2%
- Late payment fee: None
- Returned payment fee: Up to $30
Interest Rates
- Regular APR: 13.99% (variable)
If you don’t pay your credit card balance in full each month, you’ll be charged interest. The interest rate you’ll be charged depends on your APR (“annual percentage rate”).
Grace Period
The Sable ONE Secured credit card gives you a 21-day grace period (beginning on the first day of the new billing cycle). The grace period allows you time to pay your bills in full without racking up any interest charges on new purchases.
If you pay off your balance in full by the due date, your purchases during the grace period won’t accumulate interest. However, if you carry a balance from previous billing cycles, you’ll have to pay interest on any charges you make to your card during the grace period.
Rewards
One major reason we rate the Sable ONE Secured credit card so highly is the rewards program.
You’ll earn 2% unlimited cash back on purchases from Amazon, Uber, Uber Eats, Whole Foods, Netflix, Spotify, and Hulu. And you’ll get 1% cash back on all other purchases.
Cashback match
The Sable ONE Secured credit card doubles your cash back in the first year, so you’ll receive twice the cash back that you earn over the first 12 months. For example, if you earn $100 in cashback rewards over the first year, the Sable ONE Secured credit card will offer you $200 total in rewards.
Benefits
The Sable ONE Secured credit card offers many more benefits than you’d expect from a traditional secured credit card:
- Cell phone insurance: If you charge your cell phone bill to your Sable ONE Secured credit card, you’ll get coverage against theft of or damage to your cell phone (even including cracked screens).
- MasterRental® car rental insurance: If you use your card to pay for a car rental, this benefit provides insurance coverage against theft of or damage to the vehicle.
- Travel assistance: When you’re traveling, this service gives you legal assistance, access to a roadside assistance program in case your car breaks down, and help with medical emergencies (e.g., access to information about general physicians, dentists, hospitals, and pharmacies as well as help with medical prescriptions).
- Extended warranty: This doubles the duration of any manufacturer warranties you get with items you buy on your card.
- Price protection: If you buy something and then find the same item for a lower price, Sable will reimburse you for the difference in price (subject to some limitations and exceptions).
- Zero fraud liability protection: This means that you won’t have to pay for any purchases on your card that you haven’t authorized (e.g., if your card gets lost or stolen).
- Mastercard® ID Theft Protection: This includes fraud and ID theft protection, TransUnion credit report monitoring, emergency assistance if your card is lost or stolen, and lost wallet assistance to help you cancel and replace stolen or missing cards or documents from your wallet (e.g., debit/credit cards, driver’s license, Social Security card, and passport).
- 24-hour assistance for lost or stolen cards: This gives you an emergency phone number to report your card lost or stolen and get emergency card replacements. You can also ask for emergency cash advances.
- Discounted Mastercard® airport concierge service: This means you’ll enjoy a 15% saving on Mastercard® airport meet-and-greet services.
Cash Advances
A credit card cash advance is when you use your credit card to withdraw money from an ATM. Unfortunately, the Sable ONE Secured credit card doesn’t allow cash advances. If you’re likely to need cash withdrawals, look for alternative cards that will allow this.
Some credit cards for credit building like the Legacy Visa® credit card and the Blaze Mastercard® not only let you do cash advances but also boast a very low cash advance fee of 2%. However, cards like these may charge annual fees, so you’ll have to check that any savings you make on cash advance fees won’t be offset by other fees.
Balance Transfers
A balance transfer is when you move debt from one credit card to another (which is a common form of credit card debt consolidation). Unfortunately, the Sable ONE Secured credit card doesn’t allow balance transfers.
If you need to consolidate debt, look for a credit card that offers balance transfers and, ideally, has a low balance transfer fee. For example, the Discover it® Secured credit card offers an intro APR of 10.99% for balance transfers (for 6 months from the date of your first transfer) and a reduced balance transfer fee of 3% (down from 5%).
Security Deposit
With secured credit cards, you have to pay a security deposit, and the deposit you pay usually determines how much credit you get. Often, the minimum deposit you can pay is around $200 to $300.
Similarly, when you open a Sable ONE Secured credit card account, you’ll have to pay a security deposit to get a credit line. However, with this card, there’s no minimum amount for the deposit. That means you could pay $5 as a deposit, but you’d get an equally tiny credit limit.
The maximum deposit you can put down is $10,000. This will give you a $10,000 credit limit. The card issuer will return your money to you if you:
- Reduce your credit limit
- Get upgraded to an unsecured credit card
- Close your credit card account
Credit Limit
The credit limit you get with the Sable ONE Secured credit card will depend on the deposit you put down. If you put down a larger deposit (up to $10,000), it’ll make it easier to maintain a low credit utilization rate (a metric that contributes to your credit score and is based on the amount of your available credit that you’re using), which will be good for your credit score.
Graduating
The Sable ONE Secured credit card allows you to graduate to an unsecured credit card in as little as 4 months. To graduate as quickly as possible, follow these steps:
- Pay your bills on time every month.
- Use your card for transactions worth at least $250 every month.
- Use your card for 15 or more transactions every month.
- Maintain a credit limit of at least $500 for 4 months before you want to graduate to an unsecured card.
- Credit your Sable bank account with direct deposits from a paycheck worth at least $500 per month for 4 months before you want to graduate to an unsecured card.
Credit Reporting
Credit reporting is an important part of building credit, as your credit report is based on the information your lenders send to the credit bureaus.
Lenders aren’t legally required to report your credit history. However, the Sable ONE Secured credit card currently reports to Experian and Equifax on a monthly basis, and they plan to start reporting to TransUnion as well.
Credit Building
Because the Sable ONE Secured credit card reports to one or more credit bureaus, it helps you improve your credit score. However, it’s important that you keep up with your monthly payments. Your credit will suffer if the Sable ONE Secured credit card reports late or missed payments on your account.
Credit Score Requirements
Sable says that there’s no credit check when you apply for the Sable ONE Secured credit card. This means there are no credit score requirements, so you don’t have to worry about a blemished credit report sabotaging your application.
Application and Approval
To apply for a Sable ONE Secured credit card, go to the card website, enter your personal details and email address, then download the app. This should take about 5 minutes.
An unusual feature of the Sable ONE Secured credit card is that you don’t need a Social Security number, and you can apply with an international address, passport, and visa. This means that, even if you haven’t yet arrived in the US, you can use the Sable card to start building credit.
Since the card doesn’t require a credit check, you won’t get a hard inquiry on your credit report (a negative mark showing that a lender has viewed your credit report). This means you won’t lose any points from your credit score when you apply for the Sable ONE Secured credit card.
Sable claims that there’s a 98% approval rate for applicants, so it seems unlikely that your application will get rejected. In the likely event that you’re approved, your physical card should arrive in the mail within 8–10 business days, although you’ll get a virtual card before then (which you can use for shopping online).
Managing Your Account
To manage your Sable ONE Secured credit card—including making payments—you can sign up online and download the iOS or Android app.
Customer Service
If you need help with your Sable ONE Secured credit card, you can contact customer service by calling (833) 583-8383. Alternatively, you can send an email to [email protected].
Lost or Stolen Cards
If your Sable ONE Secured credit card is lost or stolen, or if you notice something that looks like unauthorized use of your card, call (833) 583-8383. In the meantime, you can freeze your card from your app to make sure no one else uses it.
