The PlayStation® Visa® credit card offers some enticing welcome offers and reward rates with no annual fee, making it a useful card for PlayStation-loyal gamers.
Quick Review
The PlayStation® Visa® is a unique credit card aimed at gamers. With no annual fee, good rewards rates, and some useful welcome offers, this card can be worthwhile if one of your main hobbies is gaming.
The PlayStation® Visa® card nets you:
- 5x points on PlayStation and Sony purchases
- 3x points on your cable and internet bills
- 2x points on dining purchases
- 1 point per dollar on all other purchases
This card also features two welcome bonuses:
- $50 PlayStation Store code when you make your first purchase
- A free $75 game when you spend $500 on non-PlayStation/Sony purchases in your first 60 days
That means you can receive a newly released game at no cost and another at a serious discount after only 2 months of spending with the card. While this totals a $135 value welcome reward, many other rewards cards offer welcome bonuses in the $200–$300 range, so it may not be the great deal it seems.
Additionally, to turn the full 5 points on your PlayStation and Sony purchases, you’ll need to submit a Sony Rewards Bonus Points Form. This additional step can be taxing, even when done through the app, so consider whether you’re willing to make the effort to get the most from your game purchases.
As one of the few cards of its kind, the PlayStation® Visa® card tops our list of the best credit cards for gamers. While it may not be the most flexible rewards card, it’s a low-cost card that offers real value for people who buy the latest PlayStation releases.

Rewards
The PlayStation® Visa® card lets you earn Sony Rewards points on the following purchases:
- 5x on purchases made directly with PlayStation, and purchases of PlayStation/Sony products at the PlayStation store or at an extensive number of authorized retailers
- 3x on cable and internet bills
- 2x points at restaurants, including eligible fast food chains and takeout/delivery services
- 1 point per dollar on everything else
To receive the full 5 points per dollar on PlayStation and Sony products, you’ll need to fill out a Sony Rewards Bonus Points Form to confirm your purchase. You can do this through the Sony Rewards mobile app.
If you earn or redeem points with your card, your account is considered active. For active accounts, your points will expire five years from the last day of the month they were earned in. Your account will be considered inactive if you do not earn or redeem points for 18 months, at which point your points will expire.
You can also purchase points at a rate of one penny per point.
Rewards Redemption
You can redeem your points in three ways:
- Purchases of PlayStation/Sony products online, through the Sony Rewards mobile app, or from Sony print catalogs
- Redeem for gift cards from dozens of retailers
- Redeem for tickets to concerts, sporting events, and other entertainment events
- Purchases or bids on Sony products or entertainment tickets through the ShowStoppers program
You may need at least 500 points to redeem points for products. Redemption rates vary but generally max out at once cent per point; eligible items (including gift cards) can also go on sale, increasing your point value.
If you order a physical product, your points will be deducted from your account when it is shipped.
Welcome Bonus
The PlayStation® Visa® card features two fairly valuable welcome bonuses. If you spend $500 on non-PlayStation and non-Sony purchases in your first 60 days, you’ll receive a free $75 game. You’ll also earn a $50 PlayStation Store Code when you make your first purchase on your card within your first 60 days.
Cash Advance
You can use your PlayStation® Visa® card to take out cash advances, subject to a 26.74% APR and a fee of either $10 or 5% of your advance amount, whichever is greater. Because the fee and interest rate is high, we don’t recommend using this card to withdraw cash from an ATM (use a debit card instead).
Balance Transfers
If you want to transfer a balance from another credit card to your PlayStation® Visa® card, you will be charged a fee of $10 or 5% (whichever is greater) and your balance will be subject to 26.99% APR.
Because the interest is high and there’s no 0% APR period, the PlayStation® Visa® is not a good choice for a balance transfer credit card. If you’re trying to consolidate debt across credit cards, look for one with an introductory 0% APR period or low balance transfer APR.
Benefits
The PlayStation® Visa® card comes with a few extra perks:
- You may be approved for a temporary shopping pass sent to your cell phone so you can immediately start shopping online.
- You can also add your PlayStation® Visa® card to Apple Pay.
If you are approved for the PlayStation® Visa Signature® card, you’ll also get access to Visa Signature benefits like travel insurance and airport lounge access.
Authorized Users
You can add authorized users to your PlayStation® Visa® account for no additional fee. However, you will still be responsible for paying off any charges authorized users make to your card, so add users with care.

Should You Get the PlayStation® Visa®?
FinanceJar verdict
The PlayStation® Visa® card is a good card for gamers with console loyalty. This card’s rates are enough to offset the cost of a few $60 games each year if you use it as your primary credit card, and the $0 annual fee certainly doesn’t hurt.
However, if you game on other consoles or on PC, you’d be better off with a general rewards card whose rewards rates and welcome offers will probably be worth more.
Who is this card for?
- PlayStation-loyal gamers: If you regularly spend $60+ on the latest PlayStation releases, you’ll appreciate the ability to displace those costs with rewards. Earning 5% rewards on these purchases is also a great rate given that most rewards cards don’t have game- or electronics-specific rewards categories.
- Tech nerds: Since you can earn and redeem your points for Sony electronics like earbuds, televisions, or cameras, this card has value for more than just gamers. However, you should also consider the Sony Visa® card if you spend more on tech than games.
