There are two Belk credit cards—a store card and a Mastercard—both of which offer 3%–5% cash back on Belk purchases. However, rewards can only be redeemed as store certificates, and they expire after a year.

Learn more about the different types of Belk credit cards and whether you should apply for one.

What is a Belk Credit Card?

A Belk credit card is a retail credit card that offers cashback rewards on Belk purchases. There are two types of Belk credit card:

  • Belk Rewards Card
  • Belk Rewards Mastercard®

The Belk Rewards Mastercard® and Belk Rewards Card also each have two upgrade editions: the Premier and Elite. We’ve listed their benefits in a table further down in this article.

All of the Belk credit cards are issued by Synchrony Bank and have an APR of 25.49% (fixed). This high APR is among the card’s downsides, as carrying a balance on a Belk credit card can quickly wrack up interest charges.

What’s the Difference Between Belk Credit Cards?

Here’s a breakdown of the key differences between Belk credit cards:

Comparing Belk Credit Cards

Card nameCan be used atMinimum spending requiredBelk purchases rewards rateNon-Belk purchases rewards rate
Belk Rewards CardBelkN/A3%N/A
Premier Belk Rewards CardBelk$600 at Belk / year4%N/A
Elite Belk Rewards CardBelk$1,500 at Belk / year5%N/A

Premier Belk Rewards Mastercard®Anywhere Mastercard is accepted$600 at Belk / year4%1%–2%
Elite Belk Rewards Mastercard®Anywhere Mastercard is accepted$1,500 at Belk / year5%1%–2%

Keep in mind that you can’t acquire a Premier or an Elite Belk card until you’ve already had a Belk credit card for one year. These cards are upgrades to the Belk credit card that are offered based on your Belk credit card standing (i.e., if you pay your bills on time and don’t have a balance) and how much you spend at Belk annually.

Along with their higher rewards rates for Belk purchases, the Premier and Elite edition of the Belk credit card offer additional benefits, such as:

  • Birthday bonuses
  • Flexible payment plan
  • Free shipping

Should I Get a Belk Credit Card?

FinanceJar verdict

You should only get a Belk credit card if you’re a regular Belk shopper who can enjoy the cashback rewards. As rewards are given as store certificates and expire after a year, your rewards are pointless unless you make frequent Belk purchases.

Many borrowers are probably better served by a standard rewards credit card that offers cashback on shopping and everyday purchases. Most rewards from major credit card companies can be redeemed as cash or statement credit, and don’t expire while your credit card account remains open.

Who is a Belk credit card for?

While anyone can apply for a Belk credit card, it’s most suited to the following types of borrowers:

  • Avid Belk shoppers: As mentioned, the rewards scheme is ineffectual for anyone who doesn’t regularly shop at Belk. However, if you are an avid Belk shopper, the rewards are fairly generous, especially if you spend enough to upgrade your card to a Premier or Elite edition.
  • Anyone with a big upcoming Belk purchase: Opening a new credit card can have a (temporary) negative effect on your credit score, e.g., by adding a hard inquiry to your credit report. Aside from the temporary hit to your credit, there aren’t any risks to opening a Belk credit card. So if you’re planning on making a big Belk purchase, you might as well snag a card and enjoy your welcome bonuses—a $10 certificate and a 20% discount on your first day of card ownership.

FAQs About Belk Credit Cards

1. Is a Belk credit card hard to get?

While Belk doesn’t advertise the actual credit score you need to qualify for a Belk credit card, we can assume that a Belk Rewards Card is fairly easy to get, even if you have a lower-than-average credit score.

Experian says “Many retail cards are available if you have limited or bad credit,” which indicates most borrowers can qualify for a Belk store card.

However, the Belk Rewards Mastercard® is probably more difficult to get, and you’ll likely need at least a fair credit score (640+) to qualify.

2. How do I apply for a Belk credit card?

You can apply for a Belk credit card online. You’ll first be considered for a Belk Rewards Mastercard®. If your credit score doesn’t qualify you for the card, you’ll be considered for the Belk Rewards Card instead.

3. Where can I use my Belk credit card?

A Belk Rewards Card can only be used for purchases at Belk stores and on the Belk website.

The Belk Rewards Mastercard® can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted.

4. How do I pay my Belk credit card bill?

You can pay your Belk credit card bill in the following ways:

  • Online: Manage your account at https://belk.syf.com/quickpay/unregisteredstart
  • On the app: Download the Belk app and register your credit card to manage it from your phone.
  • Over the phone: Call the number on the back of your card to pay over the phone.
  • By mail: Mail a check or money order to Synchrony Bank/Belk.

Mail-in payments should be sent to the following address:

Synchrony Bank/Belk

P.O. Box 530940

Atlanta, GA 30553-0940
