The Citi® Double Cash Card is known for being one of the best cashback cards on the market. With its high 2% cashback rate on all purchases, it wins over its many competitors that offer only 1% or 1.5% cashback rewards on general purchases.

However, despite the card’s high rewards rate and other perks (including an 18-month 0% introductory APR for balance transfers and a $0 annual fee), one downside has been the lack of a welcome bonus for new cardholders.

Now, that’s about to change. For a limited time, Citi® is offering a $200 welcome bonus when you sign up for the Double Cash card. Here’s what you need to know about this bonus offer and how to get it before it’s too late.

How can you get the Citi® Double Cash card’s new welcome bonus?

To take advantage of the new $200 welcome bonus on the Citi® Double Cash Card, you need to be a new cardholder and spend at least $1,500 within the first 6 months after opening your credit card account. This works out to $250 per month.

Start by applying for the Citi® Double Cash card. Below you’ll find details on the card, how to apply, and a link to a more detailed review.

Rewards

  • All Purchases

2% cash back on all eligible purchases (or 1% if you don't pay on time)

How the welcome bonus stacks with ordinary cashback rewards

Since this card offers 2% cash back on all your purchases (1% when you use your card for purchases plus 1% when you repay the balance), by the time you’ve met the minimum spending requirement for the welcome bonus and paid off your balance, you’ll have also earned $30 worth of tax-free, cashback rewards.

This amounts to a total of $230 in cash back that you’ll get for the first $1,500 you spend on the Citi® Double Cash card.

How to use the Citi® Double Cash $200 welcome offer

You’ll receive the $200 bonus in the form of Citi® ThankYou® Points. Each point is equal to 1 cent ($0.01). You can redeem your points in one of the following ways:

  • Statement credit
  • Bank account deposit
  • Check
  • Credit for travel bookings, gift cards, or other purchases
  • Credit for Amazon’s Shop With Points program
  • Credit with Choice Privileges, JetBlue TrueBlue, or Wyndham Rewards (plus many more Citi® travel partners if you have another Citi® card capable of earning ThankYou® points)

The points you’ll get from this $200 welcome bonus will only last 3 years, so make sure to use them before they expire. 1 You can check how many points you have left or how long before they expire by logging into your Citi® ThankYou® Rewards account online.

How long will the Citi® Double Cash welcome offer last?

Citi® hasn’t explicitly disclosed how long the Citi® Double Cash card welcome bonus will last (it’s possible that they haven’t even made up their mind yet). However, it’s safer to assume that it won’t be long before this bonus offer expires, so if you’re interested, don’t wait for long.

Is it worth signing up now for the Citi® Double Cash welcome bonus?

The Citi® Double Cash card is an excellent cash-back card with or without the welcome bonus. It’s always been a favorite among consumers who want simple but sizable rewards for no annual fee. The extra $200 you can get by signing up now sweetens an already good deal.

With that said, it isn’t necessarily the best rewards card for everybody. For starters, you’ll need to have a good or excellent credit score to get approved. And if you have good credit, you can easily get a credit card that has a higher rewards rate for certain spending categories—using a card like that is more work, but it’s also more lucrative.

The Citi® Double Cash card is best if you want a low-maintenance card that you can still earn decent rewards on. If you’ve been looking for a new credit card for everyday use, then this card should certainly be on your radar—and if you do decide to sign up, now is the perfect time.
